Dear Scumbag Commenter...

I have a serial scumbag commenter, named Telaat. I have noticed his spam comments on other blogs too.

Telaat, you are a fucking moron. Comment spam does not affect your PageRank. Stop leaving comments that are instantly deleted. It does NOTHING for you. From Blogger help:

All links will automagically use the rel="nofollow" tag, so they'll receive no PageRank boost.

Stop wasting your time, and everyone elses, you moron.

Need....More.....Ammo....

We found a family interested in buying our house in Oklahoma. They saw a flyer Mrs. Bogey put up in the area. They came and looked at the house twice. They brought their children to see their potential bedrooms. They asked us to hold off replacing a piece of carpet because they wanted to have a different color. They were very interested. They went to the bank and got pre-approved. They wanted to make an offer. A very GOOD offer. We were happy.

Mrs. Bogey tried to get ahold of our real estate agent to write up the offer. The agent was unavailable. She called the office to try to get another agent. They didn't seem to care. Finally in the evening after the family's second visit, I had to call and CHEW SOME ASS to get an agent to agree to help us. She said she would collect the offer from the family in the morning.

This morning the family has reconsidered. They own their double-wide outright and might not want to make house payments again. Our offer fell through. (Incidentally....three teenage children in a double-wide? Dante Alighieri couldn't imagine such a thing.)

It's very lucky I am in Tennessee. Otherwise someone would die a slow painful death today.

Ever Notice....

"If any of you here are in Marketing or Advertising.....kill yourselves."
Bill Hicks (1961-1994)

Have you ever noticed that every Omaha bad beat story ends the same way? "The board paired on the river." I feel for you On THG. (And I still need an idea for your link on my blogroll.) I had a similar experience last night when there was an absolute donkey just spewin' cash and I couldn't lay my hands on a dime of it. I was hanging in there taking some from the folks that were taking it off him (her? Gender means nothing online) so I was hovering near my buy-in all night, but I couldn't hit anything significant.

The 5pm deadline has come and gone about 15 hours ago, and still no word from the seller. I'm told that full price isn't enough. Am I a sucker or what? They must have seen me coming. I understand why they want more, they priced the house ridiculously low based on the square footage. What I don't understand is, they knew the price and they knew the square footage. Do I want to buy a house from people who can't understand math well enough to do basic division? There's supposedly a counter offer coming. Nothing yet though. I'm bracing myself for the worst.

Okie no more

Since I have been staying in Tennessee for almost five months and have made efforts to move here, I can no longer call myself an Oklahoma Blogger. It's been great being part of the "Okie-Vegas" bloggers. They are some of the best people I know.

Since I had to adjust my blogroll to change my Oklahoma status, I decided to add icons to the blogs that I have on my list. Some were obvious, as you will see on the right. If you see your name pictured and would like to have a certain icon associated with your link, please let me know via email or comments and I'll take care of it. Similarly if I've picked an icon for you that you don't like, let me know and I'll think about changing it.

I should be getting to the rest of you shortly...

Repeat Offender

I had about a buck sixty-five left in my PokerRoom account after I cashed out for Vegas, as I found out when I logged in this evening before the WWdN Not tournament. I busted out of that WWdN variant quite unceremoniously one minute before the PokerRoom tournament started. Twenty-one seconds short of FIVE HOURS later, this was the result.

PR Win
(Click Photo for Full Size)

Five times as many people as the last one, but only a $1 buy in. Serious donkeyness in this one. I chipped up very early but got cripped when someone got all in against me with QQQ2. I guess he thought he had enough chips because he sat out after that. (He bubbled)

I on the other hand made a huge comeback, taking the lead with two tables left. I was in second when we made the final table, and it was pretty much a two-man fight the whole way. Heads-up lasted a total of three hands. I remember thinking it was going to take forever with such huge stacks and only 15K big blinds, but on the third hand I turned the nut low and the nut flush draw, got him all in and the beautiful spade came on the river, giving me his final 500,000 chips.

It's past 3am, I have to work tomorrow and Mrs. Bogey is flying in to look at houses tomorrow. It should be a busy weekend, and I'm going to start it on no sleep. There's a lesson to be learned there: Don't play online poker if you value your sleep very much.

House Hunting

House Hunting is very tedious. You want the perfect house, but anyone's idea of "perfect" is so nebulous it's impossible to nail down.

Turns out the beautiful house in the picture from the previous post is in Ireland. Beautiful countryside, but a bit of a commute. Even worse than Newfoundland. Ironically I am seriously considering a house in a town called Belfast. Middle Tennessee, not Northern Ireland.

I'm also looking at two houses in Chapel Hill. But they're not in the same town. I guess there were a lot of hills, and a lot of those hills had Chapels on them. I've been calling them "Big Chapel Hills" and "Little Chapel Hills" although if you saw the "Big" variety, you'd laugh at the name. I believe there's a traffic signal. But I think it's usually just flashing red and yellow.

One reason I like the house in the picture is the beautiful green rolling hills, and Middle Tennessee has a lot of them. It's really beautiful country. After flat brown Oklahoma, it's a pleasant change.

Much Calmer

I finally made it into my corporate housing. The latest challenge? Internet!

I fired up my laptop and searched for wireless networks. There was one, but it was password protected. I searched through all my move-in documentation, and couldn't find one. A phone call to the office yeilded an answering service, I could leave a message for them in the morning. A night without internet? That's like a night without air.

Then I spied an interesting box on the bar that passes thru to the kitchen. A cable modem and an install kit. Very interesting! The only cable outlet was the one for the television, but the kit included a splitter. I plugged in the cable modem and ran the appropriate wires. The only page available to me was the "Sign up with Comcast" home page.

A phone call to Comcast Cable Internet Division yeilded unexpectedly positive results. I knew no details of the corporate account that should be charged for the internet service, but the tech was incredibly helpful, tracking down the account holder by traceing the mac address from my cable modem. Either that or he just said "fuck it" and turned it on. Either way, I was donking it up at the tables in just minutes!

So things are much calmer here now. If I can just find the perfect house, like this one. Isn't it lovely? I'm meeting with the real estate agent today at 1:00, so we'll see.

Homicidal Rage

I was supposed to move into my corporate apartment on the seventh. I accepted the fact that it takes 10 business days to get it set up, so I adjusted my expectations to the tenth. It is now the 17th and I had to scramble yet again to find another hotel room.

Not only that, but my move-in date on the apartment is actually the 16th, so the clock has started on my move out date. And I've never even set foot in the place. The lack of communication from the corporate housing people is astounding. I finally lost it and sent an email up the chain of management in the department.

I kind of feel bad for the employee I am torching, because I wasn't her case in the first place. My original agent never once contacted me since I initiated the process in late July. When I finally reached explosion point and went the management route before, the current agent happened to be in while mine was sick. She got stuck with a customer who was already on the edge.

Yet she has also been grossly incompetent in her duties, sending me an email telling me to "stand by" and then not contacting me for two days, despite my efforts to contact her.

If I have trouble getting reimbursed for these hotel expenses, or if I'm not in my apartment by tomorrow afternoon, I may make an average post office seem like a peaceful environment.

UPDATE: I'm cautiously optimistic. I have an address and a lockbox combination. The agent replied that she thought I "had been given" that information. Notice how she avoids saying it was her responsibility to give it to me, and she fucked it up? I wonder what she thought was up with all those emails from me pleading for help? I guess she only reads emails from her boss.

Noticable Improvement

slb straight flush

You'll notice by the upper right hand of the photo that is is the first hand of the match. Actually, this was the first hand of the first round of a four way heads-up shootout with Veneno, Steve (SLB159) and Me. Jordan (High on Poker) was supposed to be in there too, but he just missed it.

I flopped the straight flush, which is pretty safe to slow play (unless your name starts with an "S" and it ends with a "walgman") especially heads up. Poor Steve hit his straight on the river and my all-in looked enough like a bluff that he called, and it was over in that one hand.

Steve really took it well. He actually thought I slow played a flush, but when he saw it was a straight flush, he understood why I played it that way. He steamed for a moment, or so he told me later, but he got over it quickly and he kept his cool in the chat. He knows he has a problem with chat abuse after taking a beat, and losing in the first hand of a tournament will certainly make your temper rise if you have one. He's making an effort to get it under control, and it really shows.

Mondays at the Hoy

mondays at the hoy

Tonight only, a discount! Looks like a $10+1 tonight. All times Eastern.

Buzzed

bumblebeemanI'm still kinda buzzed from the PLO win on Saturday. I generally don't play Omaha, I feel O8 is a much stronger game for me. There were 178 players and it seemed to go much faster than the split version of the game.

Just to over-simplify things, all I did in this tournament was use good pre-flop hand selection and capitalized on my opponents making betting errors after the flop. This is why I think O8 is a stronger game for me, because it seems like players make more mistakes in O8 than in Omaha.

But I did make an unusually large amount of draws in this tournament, which allowed me to carry a big stack the whole time and into the final table. Players just seem to get desperate very early in these games. Pot limit keeps them from chasing your good pre-flop hands out, and it seems like once a player has potted it pre-flop he is completely unable to get away from his hand, no matter what the board looks like.

I have been playing a lot more holdem lately, even though I started the year on a huge Omaha rush. I don't know if switched because I got tired of playing Omaha, which is twice the grind of holdem. Sometimes I'll switch games when the beats get too frequent and I feel like I'm never making the right moves.

Anyway, this has rejuvenated my attitude towards Omaha. You can expect to see me at the cash tables for the forseeable future.

Pot Limit Omaha Win

Omaha win

Four hours and eleven minutes seemed short compared to most Omaha Hi Lo tourneys. I think it's because the final table goes much faster without all the split pots.

The pivotal hand heads-up had Peace King with a slight advantage, about 150K to my 120K. I made the nut straight on the turn and got all in. He called with TPTK and the nut flush draw. No heart on the river and I had a dominating lead.

Poker Not THAT Mainstream

A long time ago I set up a search agent on Fatwallet Forums to tell me when anyone posts using the word "Poker." People were posting a lot of affiliate deals and I liked seeing what was going on and countering any posts with info about Poker Source Online. Fatwallet put an end to that practice pretty quickly, but my search agent remains.

The other day I saw someone figured out how to get the ESPN Pay-Per-View of the WSOP for $9.95 instead of $24.95 (Some mistake by a specific cable company that I'm sure has been fixed by now) and the thread generated some interesting comments...

Three Random Idiots:

People pay for this? It will be on ESPN eventually for free!
People paying to watch poker? I like playing as much as the next guy, but let's be real...
You can watch me play for 8.95. I usually charge 25.95, so this is a much better deal.

I wonder if that guy who's offering the $8.95 deal has a prize pool over $80 Million? I wonder if tons of people have been following his event for two weeks and are anxious to see how it turns out?

I may just have to pay the $8.95 to find out...

I just ordered this from Amazon...
