More on Britney

Oh and FUCK all you people who say something about Britney Spears and then say "I hope she gets the help she needs."

You hope she keeps fucking up and acting like a moron. So you can laugh at her and talk about her more. So you can feel better about your pathetic life by pointing at her and going "look!"

She's a train wreck, and you're GLAD she's a train wreck. She's just a trained monkey that you've elevated to some weird "celebrity fuck-up" status. STOP PRETENDING TO CARE. EVERYONE KNOWS YOU DON'T.

Death Pool Britney

Several years ago when I worked in Kansas City we used to have a lot of sports pools going on, especially golf for some reason. In that time Tiger Woods was dominating all golf tournaments, to the point that it ruined our golf pools. It seemed like it turned into a lottery drawing. You just paid the guy that drew Tiger's name, you didn't even have to follow the tournament.

Similarly if we picked teams to compete in fantasy golf type games where you pick the players you think will have the best combined scores, it was a must. If you didn't pick Tiger you were going to lose, period. Since the players weren't exclusive, everyone picked Tiger for his team, and canceled each other out.

So we eliminated Tiger Woods from our games completely. If Tiger won, we paid out based on who came in second. We removed his results from our scores completely.

If you're running a Death Pool this year, I think you have to do likewise with Britney Spears.

She dominates the field.

Nay I say, Vin

I just read it for the first time today, but This Guy writes a pretty good blog.

Is it just me, or is Iggy still doing uber-posts, but doling the info out one post at a time? Either way, it's good to have him blogging more regularly again.

What is it that ya do here, exactly?

"Can't you assholes see? I'm a people person, goddamn it!"

I'm not sure what I do here anymore. I still play poker, but I don't obsess about it like you need to in order to blog about it. Oh well, there are still developments.

Pauly has a new tournament series starting. Good and bad news.

Good: There's no score being kept, just a chance for bloggers to get together on PokerStars (all the other PokerStars tournaments have gone away) and sling some chips and some shit.

Bad: It's just another opportunity for the ASSHOLE Bloggers that seem to have taken over these tournaments to berate people who are just trying to have some fun and play some low stakes tourney with some friends.

If you feel the urge to begin to ridicule someone's play at these games, could you just please take your business elsewhere? Your petty little snarky comments all through the tournaments that turn into ABSOLUTE VITRIOL when you get knocked out are not appreciated in the least.

WoW vs Poker

I've noticed a similarity between a certain aspect of World of Warcraft and Poker that I find interesting. It's not really about WoW or Poker really, just about human nature and fear of the unknown. Fear generally manifests itself as hatred and loathing.

In WoW you work to improve your toon. You kill monsters and other players in the world to improve your skills and earn better gear. Once you reach the highest level available, your options go down on how to improve your gear. You can continue to fight monsters and do quests to increase your reputation with certain factions. Once you have earned enough rep you can buy improved items from them.

An alternative is to do "raids." These are very special high level events that require many people. When you complete these events improved items are randomly given to those that participated in the raid.

The other way to earn improvements is by Player vs. Player. PvP takes two forms, Arena play and Battleground play. Arena is the ultimate team game, where 2v2, 3v3 or 5v5 teams fight to the death. Winners earn points which you can use to obtain gear. Battleground play are large areas where Alliance line up vs. Horde and play towards an objective. There are 4 different battleground, from a 40 vs 40 bloodbath called Alterac Valley to a 10v10 Capture the Flag game called Warsong Gulch, with some 15v15 games in between.

Many people choose the PvP Battlegrounds to improve their toons because they are the easiest to do alone. Having friends you can count on sure helps, but you can dive in on your own if you wish.

These four battlegrounds present very different options for the players, and I've noticed that the options are a lot like different poker games.

When I used to play limit poker a lot and I told people I prefer limit, they'd say "I hate limit, limit sucks." But a lot of them, when they learn the subtle nuances of limit poker, would realize that it is actually a very fun game, difficult to play well. I heard the same words when people described Omaha, or Razz. "Oh that game sucks!."

I'm hearing that refrain again in WoW battlegrounds. "Ugh, I don't play WSG, that game SUCKS!" or "That battleground sucks, how do you play that?." Then once you get them in there, show them the differences and how you can be effective if you learn about the game and in turn learn about yourself and your capabilities, it all turns around.

These poker games haven't been around so long with so many players because "they suck." They are actually very interesting games with subtleties and actions all their own. These battlegrounds aren't populated by so many people because "they suck." They are all interesting in their own way.

When people ask me what my favorite battleground is, it reminds me of when people ask me what my favorite poker game is.

"I don't know, I like them all. Mostly because of their differences."

Did Pokerworks kill Poker Blogs?

I know that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and I haven't been posting very much lately and when I do it's not much.

But have you noticed that almost every single person that got a gig at Pokerworks either stopped posting completely or almost did after that deal ended for everyone?

There is always blogger burnout and (in my case especially) poker burnout so I don't begrudge anyone who gets exhausted trying to post entertaining pokery content every goddamn day for 4 to 5 years.

But it kind of seems like the Pokerworks deal really took it out of a lot of people. Maybe it's a relief from the pressure of having to post because you are getting paid for it.

I know when I was a professional photographer I almost completely stopped taking pictures for my personal life. I didn't do "snapshots" anymore because I was a "photojournalist." I had a camera up to my face all day when I was working, I didn't have the inclination to do that when I was on vacation especially.

After I quit the newspaper business I rarely took pictures. I still had all the equipment so it wasn't the expense of the exercise, it was just the lack of motivation to do something for free that I got used to getting paid to do.

Maybe that's the case with some of the PW alum. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Maybe I just have my head up my ass.

Five MILLION Dollars

Have you heard about the lawsuit brought by some guys in Texas who were unable to log into Xbox Live over the holidays?

I know I've been pissed off before when I couldn't log into a poker site because of outages, whether it be on the part of the online poker site or because of my internet service being interrupted, but I've never been so frustrated that I felt I should SUE. That really takes balls.

They're basically admitting that their lives are so bereft of any sort of substance that they are affected by the loss of a VIDEO GAME. If they can't play their video game, they've been PERSONALLY DAMAGED enough that they need compensation.

That's a pretty big admission to being a loser, isn't it?

Funniest comment I've read about it so far comes from Tim Buckley.

And five million dollars? Really? What the hell are these kids doing that their time they were supposed to be on playing games is worth five million dollars? Do they get paid $1 per racial/homophobic slur that they toss around during a match? An extra $0.50 if its delivered without their voice cracking?
Good stuff.

Wanna Boink?

How weird is it that I had to add the word "Boink" to my email filter?

What a world.

Iowa is an acronym

It stands for Idiots Out Wandering Around.

For all those folks who want to say the Iowa Caucus means something, remember back to 1988 when the Democratic winner was DICK GEPHARDT and PAT ROBERTSON finished ahead of George Bush. Neither of them even caught a whiff of success after that.

It's meaningless. It's IOWA for Pete's sake. Why do people even care about something that happens in Iowa in relation to national politics?

This isn't meant to denigrate any results. I don't dislike Obama and I think Huckabee seems like a very reasonable and nice fellow. I just don't think this MEANS ANYTHING. Everyone is talking like it does, and that's just because they want SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT.

The Britney Spears story is equally as important, and much more entertaining. You'll gain the exact same amount of insight by focusing on that.
