I'd normally agree. But he was basically telling Israel that Carter's visiting Hamas was not policy of the US.
Lots of hatred, obviously, between Hamas and Israel. I think it was more of an assurance that the "US is on their side" kind of bullshit.
Can't say I blame him for trying to appeal to the Israelis.
