Vote Republican or You're a Faggot

Seriously? Girly-man? The pink ribbon really helps your case here.

When I was a kid, the worst insult you could call someone was "gay." Second was Jew, by the way.

Of course it happened again a couple days ago, someone attempted to insult me by calling me gay. How exactly is that an insult? I have known lots of gay people, they seem like perfectly decent folks. To me it seems equivalent to calling someone "Australian."

"Hey you! Ozzie! Yeah, I'm talking to you! You're from down under, aren't you!" I know a couple of people from Australia, and they're quite proud of it! Come to think of it, so are the gay people I know.

The funny thing is, when someone calls you gay, they're really just insulting themselves. They're telling you they're homophobic. And being homophobic is usually caused by one of two things. It's either ignorance, or it's latent homosexuality. So the person calling you a "girly-man" is either stupidly uninformed, or is secretly gay and can't come to terms with it. So how is that an insult to me?

Don't you think it's a habit from being a kid growing up in an ignorant society that used to think being gay is the worst thing you could call a guy.. like you said in your post people called each other fags all the time as kids as the worse insult...

Even today sometimes it will slip for me and if someone does something I will be like "you fag".. but I do not have anything against gay people... at least I do not think I do...

Just like fuck you slips out a ton too.. old habits die hard.

There is a good explanation of the history and meaning of girly man (which you may know) on, of all places, Wiki. To equate the phrase with gay is really a stretch, imo opinion.

The phrase originated from SNL skits where girly men were the opposite of the muscle-bound bodybuilders Hanz and Franz, who would "pump you up!" The phrase was later popularized by Arnold Schwarzenegger to refer to men who were lacking guts.

I regret that our society has become so politically correct, highly sensitive and lacking in good humor and spirit that almost anything can be taken as a slur. Maybe it was meant to be. Maybe not.

Of course, I expect that you may have a different opinion. It is unfortunate that our society has some people lacking class and decorum who spew out hateful invectives.

I have already voiced my opinion publically on twitter and TBC's blog regarding his recent use of hateful language. My position on that is pretty clear.
