Circle The Wagons
Here's the situation. Early in an MTT Jordan played 88 in position very aggressively vs Waffles AQ in the Big Blind.. Waffles hit an ace on the flop, but Jordan thought he could push Waffles off a weak ace so he continued his aggression. Waffles knew he was ahead in the hand so he slow played a pair of aces with a queen kicker. They got all in on the turn when Jordan made an outside straight draw, Jordan hit an 8 on the river to win the hand.
Level 1 thinking: They both misplayed the hand. Jordan overplayed his 88. Waffles slow played a very vulnerable hand out of position.
Level 2 thinking: Waffles knew he had the best hand and wanted to double up. He made a good read and was willing to take the risk that his hand, while ahead, was vulnerable. Jordan read that Waffles had an ace and was ahead but would fold to some very strong plays. He got pot stuck and had to make a tough call.
Waffles stuck around the table for a long time calling Jordan a moron. Waffles made a post calling Jordan a moron. Jordan replied in a post saying his play wasn't so bad, and Waffles' play was just as poor.
Here's the comments so far by Miami Donk:
Great post. I'm totally amazed at how shallow most of our blogging friends view poker hands and situations. It's pointless to try and help them Waffles, you can't teach a closed mind.and from his blog:
You get all your chips in at 80% and you're the donkey that misplayed the hand?
BWHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH
I'm not going to get into detail here today although I will attack the subject in some later posts but I'm really amazed lately by so many posts and comments on those posts about select hands and they way they are played from both perpectives. What I mean is I'm surprised at so much shallow thinking and IMO how players don't see the depth of poker and really how wrong their thinking can be at times. My My how Donk likes to circle the wagons around his friend Waffles.
Here's Donk's example of how "not slowplaying" is wrong:
I have AK and raise preflop and get called by say one of the blinds with 44. Flop comes A94 but two suited, they check their set, I C-bet, and they overbet check raise me and I fold. I usually thank them for saving me money and I like asking why they bet me off the hand and the answer is most always, "well there was a flush draw out there." Whatever, we're HU, slow play and get all my chips.But....But....Donk! You had the magic pair of aces with a big kicker! Why weren't you slow playing? You had your opponent at a FOR-SURE 80% advantage!
Donk's example gives away his true feelings about the subject. Aces with a big kicker is NOT an incredibly strong hand that is invulnerable to suckouts.
Look I don't have a problem with the way either player played his hand. I admire them both. They made a read, they played VERY aggressively based on those reads. Good, but risky poker. Many people advocate an aggressive risky style at the beginning of MTTs. Get a big stack or go home.
What I have a problem with is the insult fest that follows. Waffles gets free reign to call someone a moron for playing too aggressively, when slow playing a vulnerable hand is a VERY AGGRESSIVE play. He goes on and on about how he wants to play a risky game like check raising pot committed opponents with his vulnerable hand, but then thinks he is giving Jordan good advice about being "too aggressive." Pot? Meet Kettle.
Stop the insult fest that follows every time you get out-drawn in a tournament that you play this way Waffles. You know Jordan is not a moron, stop "pretending to help" as an excuse for calling someone stupid.
And Donk? When you say things like "What I mean is I'm surprised at so much shallow thinking and IMO how players don't see the depth of poker," your claims of intellectual superiority are very hollow. Do yourself a favor and just shut up.
Edit: Just in case you think I'm being too hard on Waffles for his treatment of Jordan after the play, here's a list of the comments Waffles has made at Jordan that are at best criticisms, at worst insults:
"Clueless"
"Jordon" (Not sure if it is an insult or just general lack of respect)
"High on Himself"
"Jordon telegraphed his weakness as he often does"
"Instead of pissing away my lead like Jordon decided to do"
"I found Jordon Junior today. He was so cute."
"I am really sick of hearing about how bad you do online.. maybe there is a reason? Idiot."
"I predict Jordon makes it no further than 25th tonight. Easy prediction because he likes to get himself in trouble with crappy play."
"I guess I gave you more credit than you deserve."
"Just reading your comments has made me dumber."
"You so fucking clueless it isnt even funny."

Stop Doing That...
I love reading blogs. I truly do. I don't think a work day would be complete for me if I didn't check out a few blogs. Most of them are exceptional, and all of them have value.
But I'm such an English nit that seeing some of the same mistakes in grammar/spelling/logic drives me so nuts I can't grasp your point because your syntax is so egregious. It makes me wonder if English is your first language.
I'm by no means a great writer, I make my share of mistakes and typos. But I try to improve, and when I see people make the same mistakes over and over, it distracts from the story they are trying to convey. For many of you English is the only language you know, at least make an attempt to learn all of it. Consider it a sign of respect to your readers.
Here's a few spelling/grammatical/logical errors I see so often they need to be addressed.
The opposite of "Winner" is NOT "Looser" when you lose a hand, you don't "loose" it, do you? Why the fuck do people want to put that extra "o" in there?
Apostrophes NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER make things plural. EVER! They make things possessive, or contractions. THAT'S ALL!
There's no such phrase as "Would of" or "must of." They are contractions of the phrase "Would have" or "must have" and are spelled "Would've" and "must've." Yes, it sounds like "Would of" but it's not. Please stop writing it.
Triple has only one "p." Double has only one "b," and it has an "ou." "Alot" is not a word.
I'm not gonna talk about "your" and "you're" because "you are" obviously never going to get it.
If a person "cold calls" he has NOTHING. If he calls with some kind of hand that he thinks is good, it's not a "cold call." Stop saying "The guy cold called my flop bet. Turns out he had a set of Aces." The only thing that was cold was your read.
When you're running bad at one site, stop blaming the site. "PokerStars wasn't letting me win, so I switched to Full Tilt." It demonstrates a deep lack of understanding in the theory of random trials. I see perfectly reasonable people say things like this all the time. All their credibility as a poker player goes right out the window.
Thank you for your cooperation.

The Poker Pejorative
Apologies, but I don't have much to say these days.
I'm only playing VERY occasionally, when the mood strikes or when I get caught up in some televised poker that inspires me to play.
The infrequent times I've played have been very successful. I don't recall any down sessions, although some of the profits have been very slim. Well technically they have ALL been slim since I'm dealing with such a small bankroll.
But playing small stakes really makes it fun to loosen up the playing style. The 25NL cash games are really fun when you call 3x and 4x raises pre-flop with garbage (but with potential) hands. Suited Two-Gappers (the gapped tooth hooker, according to Pauly), The Waffle House (24h twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.) etc.
It's a profitable exercise because the donkeys will ALWAYS pay you off if you hit, or you build image for later if your bluff gets called. In this session I made a call on the turn with 95s (double gutted/flush draw) and connected for a straight on the river. I had shown such bad hands down and a willingness to bluff on the river that I got paid off by AQ unimproved. Yes, Ace High paid me off with his whole stack. It takes quite a bit of work to set up a player so that he will pay you off like that.
The player that's going to pay you off is usually easy to spot at the tables though. He's the one giving lessons. He's doing all the talking, telling people how they should have played hands.
I guess it's a testament to my style of play that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to play at a 25NL table for more than 15 minutes without being called a poker pejorative of some kind. I always play this up to the hilt, usually with a "sorry, this is my first time playing" or "is it really rigged? Because I don't want to play a site that's rigged." Always the noob. Please tell me more. I need your help, and value your opinion.
It's always more fun when they take the bait. Logic is fun like that. Does it hurt more when they get felted by what they think is a noob? Do they google my screen name and see my blog and think "maybe he's not a noob?" Or do they see my blog and think "He really was a Donkey!"
Funny thing is, either way they're correct.

Happy Birthday Iggy
Happy Birthday to The Blogfather himself.
The big four-oh. We've all got it coming, unless we've already had it. I've got it coming in February.
It doesn't seem like a year since that fateful trip to Cincinnati where dreams were shattered and Waffle Houses were befouled.
Despite your small stature, you'll always be large in my heart.

The Loonies Are Listening To Me!
Nice story about your tax money being wasted by morons.
Mysterious coins filled with nano-technology!
Instead, the ominous-looking coin gave rise to an even stranger spy tale in this country – with the U.S. Defense Security Service warning that mysterious coins with radio transmitters appeared to have been planted on American army contractors as they travelled through Canada during 2005 and 2006.
Turns out the American officials were befuddled by protective coatings on the coin, which had been put in place to try to keep the red colour from smudging, something that marred the early 2004 printings of the coin, leaving on some a red blotch on the face of the Queen on the reverse side.
One contractor marvelled that the coin didn't seem to have a power source, but was filled with some sort of "nano-technology."

Bad News
Thanks to all those that commented and emailed about my mother. She's recuperating from her surgery well, but the bad news came late last week. The cancer has spread to her lymph nodes so she'll be undergoing eight weeks of chemotherapy starting immediately.
She's having the treatments in Birmingham so it's less than a four hour drive from here to see her where my folks are staying in Alabama. My folks live in their RV full time and usually summer all over the place and winter in the Arizona/Nevada area. Before they moved into their RV full time they lived in Alabama and their doctors are all in the Birmingham area.
When I visited her last week she looked very healthy and was in very good spirits, but that was before they lymphoma diagnosis. She was a registered nurse for nearly 30 years so she knows what she's up against. She's always been very tough, people generally know better than to mess with her. She's extremely opinionated (yes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree) and not at all shy about sharing her views with you.
She has not aged well, due to some family diseases that I've never even heard of before her diagnoses. One so rare that a Mayo Clinic study could only examine her family members for the study of the deficiency of anti-thrombins. The other is called Pick's Disease which her older sister died of last Tuesday.
Like I said, she's tough. I expect her to do well in her recovery of this.

Three to Five Seconds!
When I was driving in to work today I heard a radio commercial for something called "Maxoderm" that promises "male enhancement" in 3-5 seconds. THREE TO FIVE SECONDS! That's one of those things that sounds like TOTAL BULLSHIT the moment you hear it. Well, maybe it takes THREE TO FIVE SECONDS to sound like total bullshit. Why THREE to five seconds? If they said "Works in FIVE SECONDS" would people who got a boner in three seconds be pissed off? And if they said "Works in THREE SECONDS," would people who had to wait two extra seconds complain? After three seconds and no boner, I guess they would say "I give up, I'm not gonna fuck now," and not notice two seconds later when their erection showed up.
Is it a coincidence that every other ad you see and hear these days is for boner medication, and Baby Boomers are all getting into their late 40s and 50s? I think not. Just like how "relaxed-fit" pants showed up when all the boomers' fat asses got to their middle thirties.

Someone asked me why I don't blog about World of Warcraft. Because nobody wants to read that shit. Yes, the game is fun and an interesting diversion. But there's nothing at all compelling about it.
The only thing worse than blogging about World of Warcraft would be blogging about a television show. At least you can't know about my WoW experience unless I tell you about it. If I gave a shit about a fucking television show, I'd fucking watch it, not read a stupid blog about it.

Rep. Barney Frank, Our Great Hope
From The Agitator:
It if it passes, it would be a small victory, but a notable one. When was the last time Congress gave a little freedom back?
“I think a lot of members of Congress voted for that (ban) without having given it a lot of attention,” Frank said Wednesday. “And I think that there is growing opposition to it,” he said. “I think that this may be a case where, after the fact of having voted for it, people don't like it and they reconsider.”
Frank, the new chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said he plans to introduce a bill “probably next week, maybe the week after” against the Internet gambling ban.
To be effective, the bill would probably not only need to repeal the UIGA, but also be explicit about what it's allowing. It would need to make clear, for example, that Internet gambling does not fall under the auspices of the old 1961 Federal Wire Act. Ready for the punch line?
“In a number of areas, I am a libertarian,” Frank said. “I think that John Stuart Mill's ‘On Liberty' is a great statement, and I was just rereading it.
“I believe that people should be allowed to read and gamble and ride motorcycles and do a lot of things that other people might not want to let them do."

Misc.
I played some NL25 at PokerStars last night, because I had around an hour to kill and I didn't think an SNG would work for my time frame. Now I know what it feels like to be a luckbox. I misplayed QQ horribly and got all in vs. AA after the flop, but rivered a Q to double up. AA on the next hand felted a short stack. About a dozen hands later I saw AA again, and got two callers to my $3 pre-flop re-pop. Hit a set on the flop and rivered Aces full of Kings but couldn't get any action. I felt better on the next hand when I saw AA again and busted a guy with JJ on an all unders flop. I didn't lose a significant hand the entire hour, winning triple my $25 buy-in.
That sucks about Pauly getting axed at ESPN before he had a chance to write a word. It makes sense though. ESPN fancies themselves the main outlet for tournament poker on television, so they do as much to PROMOTE poker as they do to televise it. They want poker on tv to be "the same game you play at the dinner table with grandma," not the dirty Las Vegas picture that Pauly paints with his brutally honest stories about the poker world. ESPN isn't interested in the truth. They want something they can sell. You know, for kids.
Take a minute to check out a new poker blog called The PokerLetter Life. I dig their 10 Hottest Poker Babes feature of this poker site, although I think Shannon Elizabeth for #8 is a dubious pick. They also include a blog with some poker tips. Check 'em out if you have a minute.

32 of 90
My brother got his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, and I visited the place a few times when he was there, as he graduated from high school two years before I did. I was raised in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but Blacksburg was still quite a haul down Interstate 81. The place is REALLY BIG. 100 buildings on 2,600 acres.
This will permanently harm Virginia Tech's reputation. When something random like this happens, people remember it forever. Everyone remembers Austin Texas. Hell, everyone remembers Kent State.
It's a sad thing. Definitely sad. But I fear the overreaction. The politicking has already started. The gun nuts are saying "If there were more guns it would have prevented the problem." The anti-gun nuts are saying "If there were fewer guns it would have prevented the problem."
Of course they're both wrong, and they're both gross for exploiting the situation for their political agenda.
The US averages 90 shooting deaths per day. Statistically, this is just barely a blip. An above average day. Slightly.
It's tremendously sad and a horrible event, but it's just a consequence of the society that we've built. The attempts at social engineering that will come from this scare me far more than the chance I'll get shot down by some random killer.

PSO Poker League
I found out about the Poker Source Online Spring Poker League late as I simply wasn't paying very close attention. I attempted to deposit at Absolute Poker so I could participate. It's the first time I've attempted to deposit in a poker site in my non-neteller world. Well, I think I deposited before neteller, but this is the first time since I signed up for neteller.
I was underwhelmed. I tried a credit card and it said I needed to call to verify my credit card transaction. I closed the window without writing down the number I had to call, but fear not, they would be sending me an email with the number. Soon. Eventually. Sooner-or-later. Ok. Never.
So I missed the first league game. I'll try another deposit method, one that is sure fire but takes longer than a credit card deposit is supposed to take.
The PSO league is always a fantastic bargain, as the overlay FAR surpasses the total buy-in. If you're a PSO customer or just a shrewd poker player, check it out.

Snoop Dogg Defends Rap Music
Snoop Dogg responds to claims that Don Imus' comment was no worse than what is broadcast on the radio by Rap Music Artists:
It's a completely different scenario. [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hos that's in the 'hood that ain't doing shit, that's trying to get a nigga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthafuckas say we in the same league as him.
This is the most insidiously evil argument I have heard.
Snoop is claiming:
1) They only accuse women of being whores if they deserve to be called whores.
2) Rap Music is an art, and the "art" of Radio Personalities shouldn't be given the same latitude as his art because his art is better.
3) White people are not allowed to use the same language as black people.
1) Imus' original point was that the Rutgers team was wearing tattoos and dressing like thugs compared to the Tennessee team, so in his judgment the team "deserved" to be called whores. Who gets to be the almighty judge as to whether someone deserves to be called anything? Al Sharpton?
2) Any claim that one form of "art" is better than another is obviously without merit. One artist does not deserve any more freedom in his art than another, PEROID.
3) I'm repeating myself, but there's no way you can tell me it's fair that one person can say certain words and have no repercussions and another person will have serious consequences based SOLELY on the color of his skin.
Update: Where do I go to sue Snoop for calling me a "muthafucka?" I've suffered severe mental unpleasantness because of this degrading and disgraceful insult.

Terrorism
From comments:
Should Imus have gotten fired? The answer is obviously yes. He works for a business. His comments cost that business millions in advertising revenue. If you cost your company millions of dollars in one day, I bet you'd get fired too. That's absoultely true, Imus was fired because he "lost money" for the companies the works for. Nevermind the fact that it's advertising revenue he generated in the first place. But losing that advertising is what cost Imus his job.
Fuck racism. This is business.
But that advertising revenue was lost because of the terrorist tactics of people like Reverend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They threatened to mobilize their "community" against the companies that Imus worked for.
Al and Jesse were very calculating in their assault. They spent the first couple of days ESTABLISHING that the comments were racist and extracting an apology from Imus. Then they went after the companies saying "are you going to keep broadcasting this established racist?" The companies, in the face of Imus' admission of guilt, had no choice but to bow to the pressure of the mob.
The problem is that Sharpton and Jackson are attacking Imus for saying something that black men can say freely on the radio and television. A black man can say "nappy headed" or "ho" to anyone at any time on any station and feel absolutely no repercussions. Neither Denzel Washington or Jay Leno can say "Cocksucker" on radio or television without serious consequences. But any black man can use worse racist language on the radio in hip hop music. Not only are there no repercussions, nobody even notices.
Freedom of Speech is obviously important in this country, as it comes first in the Bill of Rights. When you've gotten yourself into a situation where the freedom of what you can and can't say is determined by the color of your skin, something has gone horribly awry.

Imus Fired
Imus was fired by MSNBC this morning, and I just heard that CBS Radio fired him this afternoon.
How sleazy was it that MSNBC fired him this morning?
You might wonder why his suspension wasn't due to start until next Monday? Because this week every year Imus holds a telethon to raise money for the Ranch in New Mexico that he runs as a charity to help children with cancer and blood borne diseases. MSNBC, after having him on for three days this week after the controversy started, fires him the day that he's supposed to run the telethon. Ick.
At least CBS radio let him have the telethon before they canned him.
I've got news for all the people that are happy that Imus got fired. Everyone that tells a racist joke is not a racist.
When you are passing judgment on whether a person is racist or not, it may help to look at other parts of their lives to see the true content of their character. Maybe look at their actions, not at the words they speak as jokes.
For me, I can look at the amazing charity that Imus runs for sick children. But the people that wanted him fired got their wish, and probably killed that today.
I hope they feel better about themselves. I feel like vomiting.
Freedom of speech SHOULD NOT be determined by the color of your skin. What words you use on the air or off, should not be available to you based on your race.
If you are not allowed to broadcast racist comments on the air, then broadcasters like Rush Limbaugh, Neil Boortz, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck need to be removed IMMEDIATELY for their racist comments about people of middle eastern descent.

Don Imus Must Be Fired
Don Imus made a racist statement. Therefore Don Imus is a racist. Therefore he cannot be trusted to be on the airwaves, so he must be fired.
That seems to be the sentiment. I have problems with the second and third part of that statement, but in this case, my biggest problem is with number one.
Did Don Imus make a racist statement?
Imus: That's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and —Where's the racism in that? He is comparing the appearance of one set of black females to the appearance of some other black women. He's not discriminating against a race based on the color of their skin. He's actually giving his opinion on the difference between people of the same race. People who are racist believe that all people of a race are the same, and the reason is because of their race.
McGuirk: Some hard-core hos.
Imus: That's some nappy-headed hos there. I'm gonna tell you that now, man, that's some — woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like — kinda like — I don't know.
The problem is that Imus' statement SOUNDS racist. He uses "racist language" to express something that is NOT racist, and is actually the OPPOSITE of racism. Possibly sexist, definitely classless, but not racist.
Those that are after Don Imus' head for being a racist are simply trying to show that they have the power to get people fired if they get offended by what someone says. He used "hip hop" language, and since he's not a "hip hop" artist he's somehow NOT ENTITLED to use that language. And that's BULLSHIT. All words are up for grabs.
People who are on the lookout for racism in America need to LOOK HARDER before they cry wolf. I'm sure there are FAR BETTER cases of racism out there they can find. As a hint, try looking for statements made out of HATE. Going after lame situations like this just hurts their credibility.
And one final quote, from Dave Chapelle:
The girl says, 'Wait a minute! Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a whore!' Which is true. Gentlemen, that is true. Just because they dress a certain way doesn't mean they are a certain way. Don't ever forget it. But ladies, you must understand that that is fucking confusing! It just is.
Now that would be like me, Dave Chappelle the comedian, walking down the street in a cop uniform. Somebody might run up on me, saying, 'Oh, thank God. Officer, help us! Come on. They're over here. Help us!' '
And I'd say OHH!! Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a police officer!' All right, ladies, fine. You are not a whore. But you are wearing a whore's uniform.

Happy Spring Holiday Folks
I hope everyone has a nice holiday. I'm very happy to have Friday and Monday off as work has been quite exhaustive lately. The good news is I don't have to be in at 5:30AM anymore so I might be able to play in a few more blogger tournaments, although it doesn't look like anyone is going to catch Miami Donk in the Battle of the Bloggers. At least I can contribute my part of the rake for the final tourney.
I took Mrs. Bogey to the DMV on Friday to renew her driver's license and they were mysteriously closed. I know it's not much of a mystery as to WHY they were closed, but there was no sign in the door and nothing on their web site that said they were going to be closed for Good Friday. She started to get pissed that a government office was closed for a religious holiday and I cut her off saying it's not fair to call the government on celebrating a religious holiday when that holiday is based on a pagan tradition, and they even held onto the rabbits and eggs as signs of fertility. She ended her tantrum and we took the opportunity of being in the "big city" (Columbia, TN. LOL) to buy some Lamb so I could make some Gyros and Tzatziki Sauce.
The weather has been very NOT spring like (in the 20's last night), but the feast was delicious. I hope everyone else has a nice spring holiday.

Everyone link Iggy
Everyone that reads this, please post a link to Iggy. Just because he's Iggy, and we're all happy that he's ubering at home again.
Also because someone who should link him refuses to. Even though he knows he should. And I think it's funny if Iggy gets a hundred links just because one meat lollipop refuses to give him one. I'm evil like that.
Also everyone go to April's Blog and witness the birth of a new poker term for the dictionary. Implied Waffle Tilt Odds. Pure genius.

Poker Jones
I'm still just barely playing enough poker to cover my infrequent poker jones. I'll watch an episode of "Poker After Dark" on DVR and I will want to play a few hands, or I'll read another chapter of "Hunting Fish" and want to get in some table time.
So far the results have been amazingly good. I still have no reliable method for depositing money into the sites, so I am playing pretty small stakes. The last three sessions have been $25NL at PokerStars, and the results have been EXACTLY the same. A player who's not as good as he thinks he is slow plays a big hand and I accidentally crack him for his whole stack.
The first one was a while back so I don't remember all the details, except that I limped in MP with T8s. I flopped top pair and a very short player raised me. There were two of a suit on the board so I put him all in, thinking he was on a flush draw. I spiked a second ten on the turn and his AA was cracked.
Next time I call a raise with AJ sooooted and the player after me also calls. The flop has two of my suit so I put in a bet and the original raiser folds but the player who was after me just called. The turn was a jack so I put the caller all in. He called and my flush came in on the river, to crack his QQ.
On the final time I called with KQ sooooooooted in middle position and saw a Q high flop. I bet around the size of the pot and got re-raised. The only hand I was worried about was AQ but since there was no PF raise I called the re-raise and turned a K. Now I was hoping for AQ and checked. He checked behind and the river was a picture perfect Q. I pushed and he used up all his time bank before calling with AQ. Would have been a great fold. I couldn't have made it. But had he raised pre-flop I probably would have folded to the re-raise on the flop.
Maybe I'm the moron and these players are really smart because I was way behind them and most of the time they got their money in when they were huge favorites and I had to get lucky. But most of them never even gave me a chance to fold my hand. I don't know if they thought they were trapping pre-flop, but the only people they trapped was themselves.
If you are going to play big pairs that soft pre-flop and not try to define your opponents hands, you better be DAMN good at reading your opponents bets, and be able to lay down in VERY tough situations. And that's pretty damn good. Better than me.

Final Saturns in Tennessee
The final Saturn vehicles are being built in the Spring Hill Manufacturing Facility for General Motors. They are laying off the bulk of the employees to retool the plant for a new vehicle, the yet-unnamed Chevrolet crossover vehicle. I took a few photos around the plant to give an idea of what the place is (was) like.
Part of the deal with the state when they built the plant was that it had to be below a certain height, so they dug a big hole and built the plant in a man-made valley. Another requirement was that it be painted to match the color of the sky, and it looks like they came pretty close:
One of the more difficult applications I have been dealing with was the Automatic Storage and Retrieval System, basically a big sorting shelf with cranes that deposit and remove parts. I'll be glad when they demolish it next month:
They had a bit of a celebration to celebrate the last vehicles off the line, complete with Saturn balloons!
They built out all other colors and the last color they build is white. It looks like Henry Ford's old plan, "any color you want, as long as it's white."
There are a lot of people who will be looking for jobs while the retooling goes on, and some, especially local suppliers who will not have a job when the plant opens back up.
The celebrations were pretty subdued for this reason. They finally announced the new vehicle today, so that was cause for celebration, even though most of us knew about it months ago. It's nice to hear it become official though, so there's hope for continued work for a long, long time.

Two Peeps, Two Cracks
The last two Peeps I've played (2-table Token SNGs on Full Tilt Poker) I got knocked out with AA both times. I played them completely differently, and I played them completely WRONG.
The first time I was the short stack with six left. These tourneys give a token to the top 5 players and give cash to the player who finishes sixth. The next shortest stack went all in, and I have AA. I knew the big stacks would call with ATC to try to knock him out but I went all in anyway. THE REST OF THE TABLE CALLED and KQ rivered a straight to knock me out with sixth place money.
The next I went out tenth when I was (again) the short stack and I picked up AA in the SB. Since the big stack was the BB and it folded to me, I decided I had to double up here. I might have been on tilt after folding A4 in the BB after two players went all-in, both with Q high. I was short enough to take the risk but pussied out and saw a flop of A44. AA on the very next hand made me feel like just getting my blind back wasn't enough. I just called the half-bet and pushed on a flop of 975. The BB called with 95 and I said "Wow I suck!" in the chat just before my tourney ended.

Poker? You first!
I actually played some poker yesterday! No, I didn't stay up late enough to play the Hoy, but I did play some of the donkey limits on PokerStars. I'm nursing a pretty small bankroll on there and have no way to get money in or out, so I gotta make it last. Playing $.50/$1 limit satisfied my poker jones for the evening.
The lower the levels you play, the more you run into table coaches. I called a guy all the way down with 22 unimproved and he went off on me like I was the worst player he had ever seen when he never connected with his AQ. "I can't wait to take all your money away," he said. "Sorry, it's my first time, but pairs beat ace high right?" When he started I was stuck about $20 but managed to leave the table even after he paid me off on every single hand we played together. Maybe acting like an ass flips the PokerStars "Doom Switch." Wouldn't it be great if it did?
****************I was really anxious for spring this year because I wanted the Drive in Movie Theater a mile from my house to open. It was open for a few weeks last year but we were so occupied with moving in we didn't get a chance to attend. I made it a goal for this spring. They opened two weeks ago but I wasn't interested in the films the first week and it was a frigid weekend. This weekend it was in the seventies and they were showing a double feature "The Bridge To Tarabithia" and "Ghost Rider." $5 per person and you can bring in your own food and drinks.
We had a good time. "Tarabithia" was a kids movie but I wouldn't let my children watch it. Not just because I don't have children. "Ghost Rider" was really dumb, but in a very cool way. The plot was very 70's comic book, which is okay by me, since I was raised on 70's comic books. The wife fell asleep ten minutes into it, so I guess her review would be "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."
Mrs. Bogey and I decided that it was a fun and cheap evening, picking up some fast food or pizza and watching a flicker at the drive-in could become a routine around our place. Unfortunately the place burned down on Sunday. They show films on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights starting at 8pm, but when we drove by the place on Sunday morning on the way to breakfast, the sign had changed to "Closed Due To Fire."
I was so disappointed I felt like stopping to see if I could help in any way. There were people there pulling burned bits out of the cinder block shell that housed the snack shop.
I hope they get the place going again, there's not much to a drive-in but the old couple that run it pretty much just did it as a hobby.
If they decide it's not worth the trouble, at least I got to go once before the fire. And if they decide to sell it, I would have to give it some serious thought.

Compiled the List
Here is a list of things that happened under the current administration. Each thing on the list is an example of documented corruption or incompetence.
Misleading statements about Bush's National Guard duty
Election Day Phone Jamming
Enron Campaign Contributions
Karl Rove's Intel Meetings
Mecidare Bill Cost disclosure
Medicare Fake Video News
Harken Energy
Yellowcake forgery
Armstrong Williams
Abu Ghraib
Tom Delay
Bernard Kerik
Downing Street Memo
U.N. Wiretaps
George Tenet/WMD
Nigerian Uranium
Detroit Terrorists
Halliburton No-Bid Contracts
Boeing Payoff
Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force
$700M diverted from Afghanistan to Iraq
Pentagon-Israel Spy Case
Duke Cunningham
Jack Abramoff/Indian Gaming
Valerie Plame
Donald Keyser's Taiwan Trip
NSA warrantless surveillance controversy
Guantanamo Bay Torture
US Attorney Firings
Note that Hurricane Katrina or The Occupation of Iraq, since those are judgment calls, (although most reasonable people judge them as incompetence) are not listed.
Maybe you can explain away a couple of these things. But this list is OVERWHELMING.
As far as "more corrupt than Clinton?" Is that really the standard you're shooting for? Why is "he's not worse than Clinton was" the standard response from you guys? I'm not a Clinton fan. You guys SHOULD be aiming higher. I know, I know. You CAN'T.

President Cowboy
George W. Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He went to prep school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and got his undergraduate degree from Yale University in Connecticut. He got his MBA from Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Why does he dress like a cowboy?
Anyway, here's the letter of the day from the local newspaper in Naples Florida.
There may have been presidential administrations in U.S. history more corrupt than the current one.George W: The Perfect Storm.
There may even have been administrations more incompetent, as unlikely as Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq debacle and now Walter Reed Army Medical Center make that appear.
But never in American history has an administration been as corrupt and as incompetent as that of George W. Bush.
Thanks to you, George W., we'll never know what kind of president Jeb might have made.

Review: The Gaming Directory
I am constantly amazed at the international nature of the search engine hits that this blog receives. The poker players out there (especially due to the UIGEA) are becoming more international, and when intelligent people play poker, they start looking for information on the internet about poker. Lucky for us (and them) they sometimes find blogs first.
The other thing they find are portals, and one of the useful ones for UK players is The Gaming Directory, the Definitive UK Gambling Resource. (I love how the brits will actually call it "gambling." It lets you know right away you're not going to get information about the newest first-person shooter.) The Gaming Directory claims to provide "an unbiased Professional resource for Businesses and the Public who are interested in finding information about land based UK casinos, gambling locations and online UK gambling."
I am not in the UK, but my review of the site shows a very professional attitude and extremely comprehensive amount of information for UK based players. They have information about Online Poker Rooms, Online Casinos and Online Sports Books. They even have information about Lotteries and Horse Racing. If you can place a wager on it in the UK, The Gaming Directory covers it.
If you're in the UK and you're interested in Online Gambling, check out The Gaming Directory. You'll be glad you did.

News Unworthy
I heard on the radio this morning that the Opie and Anthony Traveling Virus Tour will be in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Casino on April 14th. Anthony Cumia is planning on arriving the night before (Friday the 13th) and playing poker all night. If you want to play with a celeb, you might be able to get into the game. I've heard him talk about playing in Kevin Smith's home game, and he sounds like he has some idea of how to play. I'm going to try to swing a trip out there that weekend so I can try to get into the game and see the show. The lineup so far is:
Jim NortonI really want to see Louis C.K. and Joe Rogan. What I've heard of them on XM Comedy is hilarious so I can't wait to see them live.
Joe Rogan
Louis C.K.
Frank Caliendo
Bob Kelly
Rich Vos
Otto & George
Ralphie May
PSO Rumors
I still keep up with most of what goes on over at the forum at Poker Source Online and I think there are big things brewing. There was a thread talking about a new logo, and I doubt they would come up with only a new logo over there. I expect and entire site overhaul, and I'm sure there will be a big shakeup in the promotions offered and member's freerolls. If you're a member over there be sure to take a look once in a while. If you haven't signed up there yet, you're missing out on a lot of free stuff. You really can't go wrong with anything over at Poker Source Online. I'll keep you updated on any changes I see over there.

With a Capital "T" Which Rhymes with "P" and that Stands for "PUSSY"
The biggest problem I have with laws like the UIGEA is that they are fundamentally flawed in a country that purports to value "freedom." The government has decided what you should and should not be doing with your money, and gambling on the internet is one of the things those we've elected to supposedly defend our freedoms have decided that we should not allow ourselves to do.
Why should I be surprised when things like this also happen.
Yes, the town has outlawed bars that allow pool, karaoke and trivia video games. Nothing is allowed that is more interactive than WATCHING TV. The people of this town have decided that you shouldn't be spending your money on alcohol while enjoying a game of pool, a round of trivia or (god forbid) singing karaoke.
How did people in this country get so far off track? Where do they get off thinking that they need to control the people that surround them so much that they can't allow them to SING WHEN DRINKING? What are they trying to protect themselves from?
Is it paranoia? I've noticed that people all around me seem to be TERRIFIED of things that they weren't afraid of in the past. We didn't used to have things like helmet laws for bicycles, seat belt laws, laws against riding in the backs of pickup trucks. Sure doing those things was risky, but it was up to us to determine if we wanted to take that risk. For some reason that decision cannot be left to ourselves anymore, we must be TOLD how much risk we can allow ourselves.
How pathetic are we, as a nation?

Blinded By the Daylight Savings
I got stung twice by the forward push of Daylight Savings. Two stings and just general misery.
It got me yesterday when I logged nearly an hour in advance to register for the bloggerpods tournament. Only I forgot about Daylight Savings and I actually logged on ONE MINUTE too late to register. Of course I suspected, but I just barely missed it. No iPod for me.
Then on my way into work this morning, it was dark again. I had to go in extra early because of the Daylight Savings change on the servers I support, and Daylight Savings had pushed back the sunrise by an hour. When I flicked on the headlights of my car, all I could see was the very faint glow from my parking lights. No headlights at all. FRICK! Luckily for me, the hi-beams were working. So I blinded the three other souls I saw on the road this morning at 5am (which felt like 4am, or even earlier as I didn't get to sleep until after 1am.)
On my way home I pulled the fuse and examined it, then pulled both bulbs and examined them. All of them looked fine. Somehow this examination miraculously brought one headlight back to life. A stop at the Auto Zone for a new bulb brought the other one back. It will be pre-dawn for the rest of the month when I head for work, so I won't have to blind any more pickups at 5am.

R.I.P. Brad Delp
I don't have a single friend that doesn't have some fond teenage/early twenties memories associated with this legendary album, which Brad Delp is ultimately responsible for. If it's not the greatest debut album in the history of rock music, I don't know what is.

Faggot
What are the consequences if you call a presidential candidate "faggot" in a public forum?
Of course you get to be on CNN, Fox News, and whatever other "news/entertainment" television you want. You get to sell tons more of your mindless, ethically-challenged, SHITTY pseudo political books to like-minded bigots and assholes. You get a zillion hits on your web site so people can see your non-apology apology.
Never mind that she did the exact same thing at the exact same conference last year, only she used the word "raghead" instead of "faggot."
Why on earth do people who do the WORST things get EXACTLY what they want as a reward for misbehavior?
I need some more hits on my website. You're all ragheads faggots.

Keep Your Money Safe For Poker
I got an email this morning saying that I received $386.56 in my moneybookers.com account! Sweet!
Except that I don't have a moneybookers.com account. I never have.
As usual it's another scam to try to get you to login through one of the links in the email to surrender your account information and password so they can raid your account.
You can usually tell if one of these emails is a scam because of misspellings or obvious errors in formatting. This one was suspicious because of the MANY MANY places where you could click to go to your account "directly" instead of typing the url into the address bar or using a shortcut/bookmark that you created yourself.
Do yourself a favor, and NEVER EVER click on a link in an email and then log into an account that has real money or information in it.
I caught myself doing it last week. Even though it looked like a legitimate email from a company I ordered something from for an amount I was expecting to see, I still stopped when I had to login to my account after clicking on an email link. Type in the URL of the site you are going to. The few seconds you save by clicking on the link isn't worth the risk you take in giving your account information to an unscrupulous email scammer.

Pokery Action
I showed up an hour and a half late for the Bloggerpods2 tournament, but it looks like it didn't go off as planned. They've rescheduled it for next Sunday if anyone is curious. I got lucky that the Full Tilt servers were down when the tournament was scheduled to begin. I'll try to remember 6pm Central time, although that will be after daylight savings so it will feel live 5pm.
Daylight savings is weeks early this year as everyone who supports a computer system already knows. It's your basic nightmare here as we have to deal with process engineers who think that it's okay to schedule events daily by scheduling the next event to occur 24 hours after the last one. This will cause more problems than Y2K, mark my words. The sun was coming up this morning as I drove in at 5:45 this morning, so I sort of welcome the extra hour of darkness in the morning.
I was still in the mood for some pokery type action when I logged in late for Bloggerpods2 since I hadn't played a hand since last weekend, so I fired up a SNG on Full Tilt. The action was pretty typical, (aka some dork calling all in pre-flop in the first five hands with J9 soooooooooted) until we got down to the final four. I took third and fourth out in one hand when my AQ beat A7 and A8 on a flop of QT8. I lost the heads-up match when my opponent called off half his stack with T2 after missing the flop. He must have felt the ten coming on the turn and I was too pot stuck to get away from it. When he insta-called I was expecting to see AT because that was the only hand I could reasonably expect someone to call a 2500 flop bet with, so when I saw the T2 I was too disgusted to play another game.
I'm taking my second place money and going back to WoW.

Love/Hate
Trip kind of clarified the point of my last post in his comment. I love movies and hate the Oscars. I love good acting and hate "actors." I have a hatred for the celebrity fervor that surrounds "movie stars." It's just a job, folks. They pretend really well. Therefore, they are treated like Gods who walk on earth. Until they get "too big for their britches." Then they are mercilessly mocked and humiliated.
I was listening to the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio on my drive home yesterday and his guest was NBA Legend Reggie Miller. All Dan wanted to talk about was the Hollywood parties that Miller attended after the Academy Awards show Sunday night. "Who did you see," asked Dan over and over. "C'mon, you can tell us."
THAT'S what I listen to sports radio for. So I can get the skinny on what's going on between Ryan Philippe and Greasy Reese Witherspoon. Whatever you do, DO NOT tell us about spring training baseball, the only reason I begin tuning into sports radio again in the late winter/early spring. Heavens no. Tell me all the happenings in Leonardo DiCaprio's world. Please.

Oscar
Outside of Hollywood it's the biggest gay holiday of the year, so I guess it's good that the Academy Awards realized who their audience was and got Ellen to host. It's like a big "thumbs up" to their target demographic. "We know you're there, and we love ya!"
I don't give a shit what anyone was wearing. Nobody else does either. Unless you're Ryan Seacrest, or otherwise like to chug penis. The single dumbest question uttered by a human is "Who are you wearing?"
I'm sure Martin (Marty) Scorsese is thrilled that he won an academy award for, let's say, the FIFTH best film he's ever done? "Goodfellas," "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," "The Color of Money," "The King of Comedy," "The Last Temptation of Christ," "After Hours"...wow, I liked them all better than this one. That makes this at best the NINTH best film he's done IMO. I enjoyed "The Last Waltz" more too but I'm not gonna count that one. Oh yeah, "Cape Fear." Make it TENTH.
As an awards show, the Oscars are a joke.

My Thoughts On Anna Nicole Smith
If you are going to be stoned EVERY SINGLE DAY OF YOUR ADULT LIFE, 39 years is a LOOOOOOONG Life. She was lucky to make it as long as she did.
That is all.

Well Thought Out
"Well, you know, I hate [Black] people. I let it be known, I don't like [Black] people. I don't like to be around [Black] people.
"Yeah, I'm [racist]. I don't like [them]. [They] shouldn't be in the world or in the United States. So, yeah, I don't like [them]."
"I don't condone it. And if people got problems with it, I'm sorry. I'm saying I can't stand being around that person, knowing that [they're black].
"First of all, I wouldn't want [a black person] on my team. And second of all, if he was on my team, you know, I would really distance myself from him because I don't [like them]."

Very Little Poker
With the exception of the WWdN on Tuesday night, I have played very little poker.
Instead, I have a 15th level Orc Hunter with a cool pet called (I shit you not) "The Rake."
Update: I'm already in a Guild. I hear this is a bad thing as far as addictions go.

I Get To Decide What You Watch on TV
That's right, for the first week of February, I was a Nielsen Family! I got the books, I tracked every minute of TV watching and DVRing I did for the first through the eighth. I even got $5 whole dollars cash for participating.
You can be DAMN sure the word "Idol" didn't appear in my books anywhere, but there was plenty of Heroes and Adult Swim on there (I PVRed a Heroes Marathon the day before the ratings period started). Mrs. Bogey pretty much filled up the rest of her book with SciFi Channel offerings.
It turned out to be a lot more work than I anticipated, because the way you log time shifted DVR programs is a bit cumbersome. I wonder if I was supposed to record shows that I fell asleep watching?

They Gave Up
The weather predictors here in Tennessee have gotten it SO wrong SO often lately that they have completely given up predicting the weather.
I just watched a local news station give the current weather for the area west of here and say "It might come this direction." That's the best they can do now, they are unwilling to commit to any actual predictions.
I guess that's what happens when you miss the forecast by 20 degrees or more 5 out of the last 10 days.

Charity?
Someone did something nice for someone. It was very nice and I'm sure the recipient was very grateful. No harm done at all. Everyone wins.
The recipient published something (in a blog where he's paid to write, btw) that said he was slightly worse off financially after his divorce than he was before it. A kind person took heart and gathered some funds from willing bloggers and delivered a kind but obviously frivolous gift to the downtrodden author.
But I have to wonder. There are several bloggers who are now or have recently been without work. There are some that have been recently divorced and nobody survives something like that without a big financial hit. Like Christopher Titus says "Wanna know why it's so expensive to get divorced? Because it's worth it!"
There are certainly those more needy, if not more deserving of charity. I wonder how those people felt when they read about this "act of charity." I don't presume to know. I just wonder.
And I'm absolutely not shitting on someone doing something nice for someone else. I'm sure everyone that gave money to this cause knew the whole situation and people can certainly do whatever they want with their money.
I think the gift giver is a really good guy, and the recipient (although he probably spends more to get his metro-sexual wardrobe cleaned in a month than this gift cost) is well meaning too.
I just got a weird feeling when I read about it, knowing what I do about some other bloggers and what I know about the situation. Some people will just think I'm being an asshole but those people already think I'm an asshole anyway.
I wasn't asked to be a part of this, I only found out about it by reading the blogs of the giver and the recipient. Had I been asked, I'm pretty sure I would have declined. Probably. I definitely would have felt like I was getting squeezed. If any bloggers felt put on the spot by the request, I feel bad for them.

Retard Requirement
I swear there must be a frickin requirement that you have to be RETARDED to be in politics. These morons give mentally challenged people a bad name. The mentally challenged look at these people and say "They're fucking retarded!"
The Nashville City Council passed a measure making English the official language of the city.
After months of debate, the city's Metro Council voted 23-14 on Tuesday to approve the measure, which would require all government communications to be in English, except when multilingual communications are required by federal rules or are needed "to protect or promote public health, safety or welfare."Months of debate? That means tons of $$$$. For what? A moronic resolution with a loophole so big you could pilot the space shuttle through it.
The exceptions were added after the city attorney contended that the bill's original language was unconstitutional. Some supporters and opponents of the measure said the exceptions mean the law would have little effect on city business.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does't "health, safety and welfare" cover EVERYTHING the government claims to do? What's left? Collecting taxes? What fucking "scourge of evil" is this law hoping to prevent?
The Nashville City Council should have saved a bunch of money and just all stood up at the same time and shouted "WE HATE SPICS!"

No Pokah
I guess I started the boycott too early! I haven't played any online poker since last week. What have I been doing with all my spare time?
Despite all the warnings from people who obviously know better and against my better judgment, I started playing World of Warcraft. It's not a horrible time to start as there is renewed interest in the game from longtime players because of the first expansion release in two years.
It does seem to be a huge time sucker of a game, although not as bad as the horror stories I have been hearing about EverQuest.
So far nothing from the government about trying to stop me from playing World of Warcraft, but I expect something in the near future.

The World Seems a Little Better
I'm beginning to hear about new payment processors coming online that are eager to server the US Market.
MyWebATM and YouTeller are the first two I'm hearing about. I'm anxious to hear some reviews and learning about the fees.
One thing that was great about Neteller was if you used them properly and had some patience, you could transfer money completely without paying fees. There were fees for people who used insta-cash (if the poker room didn't cover it) or used their ATM card (an ATM with a monthly minimum/fee is ludicrous) but I considered that a stupid tax.
I don't really expect a fee free solution, because I'm sure these companies are looking at all these desperate gamblers and thinking "why give them something for free when they're obviously willing to pay for it?"

Poker Tables at Cardroom Supply Review
The following post is a paid review of the Poker Tables at Cardroom Supply.
Nobody plays poker on the dining room table anymore. Why make do with a hard surface where it's hard to pick your cards up and you have to be careful that your chips might slide everywhere when you can play on yards of soft spongy felt surrounded by beautiful Oak or Mahogany with comfortable padded rails?
No matter what your budget is, Card Room Supply has Poker Tables that can make your home game a better poker experience. From a wood cylinders finished with metallic brass and chrome Texas Holdem table for $5,500 to an octagonal folding table topper for $79.99, CardRoomSupply.com has something for your home game.
I highly recommend the 10 Player folding Holdem folding table top because I have one of these. The padded rails are a luxury you'll really notice after sitting at the table long into the night. At $175 it's a must, especially with the free shipping that comes with any order over $100. It easily fits into the trunk of my car for carrying to those away games.
There are more than 30 tables and table tops available at CardRoomSupply.com. If you're looking for something to make your games a little more professional, or you're looking for something to make your rec room into a place that would make a casino jealous, CardRoomSupply.com can fix you up.
